Most wedding vendor problems come from things nobody asked about until the contract was signed. Take these questions to every bridal hair and makeup artist you meet, compare the answers side by side, and get the important ones written into the contract.
When to book: couples usually book bridal hair and makeup artists about 6–8 months ahead, earlier for peak-season Saturdays (May–June and September–October).
The Questions
- Is a trial included, and when should we schedule it?
- Do you travel to the venue, and is there a travel fee?
- How many people can your team finish by our ceremony time?
- What products do you use, and can you work with sensitive skin?
- Do you offer touch-ups, airbrush or lashes?
- What is your price per person, and is there a minimum?
- What are the deposit and cancellation terms?
Tips
- Schedule the trial near a dress fitting or engagement shoot.
- Build a timeline backward from the first photo.
- Ask about early start fees for very early mornings.
Before You Sign
- Get the date, start and end times, exact services, total price and payment schedule in writing.
- Read the cancellation, postponement and refund terms.
- Check that the business name on the contract matches the one you researched.
- Pay deposits by credit card where possible, for buyer protection.
