Most wedding vendor problems come from things nobody asked about until the contract was signed. Take these questions to every wedding florist you meet, compare the answers side by side, and get the important ones written into the contract.
When to book: couples usually book florists about 6–9 months ahead, earlier for peak-season Saturdays (May–June and September–October).
The Questions
- Have you worked at our venue, and do you know its rules for installations?
- Which flowers will be in season on our date, and which cost more?
- Can you work to our budget and suggest substitutions?
- Do you deliver, set up and break down? Is that included in the price?
- Can ceremony flowers be moved to the reception?
- Do you rent vases, arches, candles and stands, or do we buy them?
- How many weddings do you take on the same day?
- When do you need the final count, and what are the deposit and cancellation terms?
Tips
- Bring photos of what you like and what you do not like.
- Seasonal and local flowers stretch a budget furthest.
- Greenery-heavy designs and fewer, larger arrangements can cut costs.
Before You Sign
- Get the date, start and end times, exact services, total price and payment schedule in writing.
- Read the cancellation, postponement and refund terms.
- Check that the business name on the contract matches the one you researched.
- Pay deposits by credit card where possible, for buyer protection.
